Remix Metadata: Remixer Credits, Sped Up and Slowed Versions
Updated 2026-10-21 · 6 sources
Short answer
A remix keeps the original artist as primary, adds the remixer in the Remixer role, and puts the remix name in the version in parentheses or brackets, e.g. "Song (Kai Lane Remix)". Apple applies this to sped up, slowed down and lo-fi versions too. Each remix needs its own ISRC and the rights holders' permission.
Credits
- Apple: remix tracks, including sped up, slowed down and lo-fi versions, list the original artist as Primary and the remixer in the remixer role [1].
- Spotify lists remixers among the key roles to set [2], and its style guide says main artists, featured artists and remixers are the roles visible on non-classical releases [3].
- Apple defines a remix as an existing song changed with the permission of the rights holders [1].
Titles and collections
- Use version information in parentheses or brackets to tell versions apart [1]. See remix, live and version titles.
- Remix collections of one track say so in the album title, and each track title must say enough to tell the remixes apart [1].
- Each remix is a different recording and needs its own ISRC [4].
Permission
SoundOn won't accept a remix or a track using a sample without the correct licence [5], and distributors reject unauthorized remixes [6].

FAQ
Should the remixer also be a featured artist?
No. Use the Remixer role. Featuring is for guest performers.
Can I upload a sped-up version of someone else's song?
Only with the rights holders' permission. A sped-up version uses their recording.
